Plot synopsis
Images of a "Day of the Dead" celebration in Mexico

“Death Day” consists of footage shot in Mexico in 1931–32 by Sergei Eisenstein, Grigori Alexandrov, and Édouard Tissé as part of the ¡Que viva México! project, for which “The Day of the Dead” was intended to serve as the epilogue. Eisenstein, however, did not participate in the editing of this standalone short film, which was completed and distributed in 1934 by producer Sol Lesser. The editing is attributed to Carl Himm.
